‘Crown' or a ‘cap' is a restoration that replaces the visible part of the tooth both esthetically and functionally .

There are metal and esthetic crowns. Esthetic crowns can be made of porcelain fused to metal or entirely of porcelain. Porcelain is whitish in color. Shade of porcelain is determined by a lot of factors and is made to mimic a natural tooth. The metal used for crowns can be non-precious metal alloy or precious metal alloy. We have a special machine (Vita EasyShade) by which porcelain shade is matched with the shade of one's natural teeth to give the crowns/bridges a natural look.

The type of crown is decided on the basis of the location of the teeth, occlusion and health of the gums.

Bridge

A bridge is a fixed partial denture which takes the support of other teeth to replace one or more teeth.

As the name suggests , the restoration bridges the gap between 2 or more teeth.

After the preparation of a tooth crown or a bridge is done, impression records are sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the crowns and bridges. Temporaries are given to the patient while the permanent caps or bridges are being processed in the dental laboratory. These temporaries enable the patients to face their important engagements or meetings without the embarrassment of broken and disfigured teeth. The temporary crown or bridge provides protection to the underlying tooth. Any changes that need to be made in the crown or bridge is noted and made in the permanent restorations.

Crowns and bridges are esthetic and can withstand strong chewing forces. At the ‘try-in' appointment, it is placed in the mouth and all the functional and esthetic aspects of the restoration are checked. After the try-in, if changes are not required in the final restoration then it is cemented on the teeth.
