In case of trauma or large carious lesion in a permanent tooth of a young child before the calcification of the root occurs, the pulp may get necrotized and can be a source of a serious infection. In order to save the tooth from extraction, the tooth is cleaned and treated with special medicaments for some weeks till the apex of the tooth closes and a normal root canal treatment can be performed.
